OUR MAKIA, OUR PURPOSE
Mākia Co is a Hawaiʻi-based educational program empowering youth entrepreneurship driven by passion and purpose (mākia) by providing students with the tools and resources to grow as both business owners and lifetime leaders.
At Mākia, we believe that entrepreneurship is not just about personal achievement; it is about fostering community, creating meaningful impact, and pursuing ventures in which passion meets purpose beyond oneself.
In Ōlelo Hawai'i (the Hawaiian language), the definition of "mākia" can be interpreted through two perspectives:
1. aim, motto, purpose
2. to fasten, as with bolts, nails, or stakes
Through this lens, "mākia" resonates with our mission to empower entrepreneurship that is grounded in intention.
By bringing together entrepreneurs at every level of their journey, we foster a safe and supportive space in which innovation and creativity strengthen both business ventures and our community as a whole.
ONE OF A KIND KEIKI
Our origins as a makers market began in 2023 as the “Keiki Makers Market” hosted in collaboration with the Hawaii Children's Discovery Center, a 501(c)(3) Nonprofit Organization with which we continue to host events with every year.
Inspired by the brilliant young minds eager to explore entrepreneurship, we realized that this passion project had grown into something much larger than ourselves as individuals—rather, a way to help emerging student entrepreneurs in our community to bridge the gap between aspiration and achievement through real, experiential learning in entrepreneurship, business, and lifelong leadership competencies.

OUR HUAKA'I IN HAWAI'I
To further the Mākia Mission to empower youth entrepreneurship grounded in passion and purpose (mākia), Mākia Co presents several [projects] that can be categorized into three core domains:
EMPOWER
Empower entrepreneurial dreams through our workshops and courses, encouraging early exposure to entrepreneurial thinking and sparking innovation and creativity.
ELEVATE
Elevate experiential learning through events and makers markets, providing a platform for our young creators to gain valuable experience in a safe and supportive environment.
ENHANCE
Enhance opportunities for growth through our programs, enabling students to achieve key milestones in both business and leadership competencies.
